What Our Customers Say

These are real words from real customers. People who trusted us with their Bugs, Buses, Ghias, and more — and got back something they're proud of.

I purchased my 1957 Oval Beetle in March of 2017. While visiting some friends in Colorado I walked into Motorworks Restorations and talked to Jeremy Vreeman. He gave me good advice — make sure whoever restores the car is first-class. He recommended Buddy Hale of Type One Restorations in Arizona. Buddy then recommended Cooker's Restoration in Maryland, saying I would not be disappointed in their work. Boy was he right! I looked at the Cooker's website and saw the rusted-out cars they take in and was really impressed. Seems like they take the worst of the worst that most other shops shy away from. I called Bob and he seemed excited about my project. The results were spectacular — a show-quality '57 Oval that exceeded every expectation.

I trusted Cooker's with my 1967 Deluxe 21-Window Bus — an 18-month frame-off restoration. From the moment I dropped it off to the day I picked it up, the communication was outstanding. Bob kept me updated at every stage, documented everything on Instagram so I could follow along from out of state, and the final result was beyond anything I imagined. The Bus came back better than it ever was from the factory. These guys genuinely love what they do, and it shows in every inch of the work.

I had been working on my 1968 Beetle for 30 years — a lifelong project that never quite got finished. When I finally brought it to Cooker's, Bob and his team took it to a level I never could have reached on my own. The car won Best of Show at its first event. The attention to detail was extraordinary — they treated it like it was their own car. That's the Cooker's difference.

I brought my 1960 VW Single Cab truck to Cooker's for a patina restoration — I wanted it preserved, not made new. Bob understood exactly what I was going for. They cleaned up the rust, made it solid and drivable, but kept all the character and original patina intact. It's exactly what I wanted, and the craftsmanship on the metalwork was exceptional. Cooker's gets it — they understand what these old trucks mean to their owners.

Cooker's did incredible work on my 1961 Double Cab. I was nervous bringing such a rare truck to anyone, but from the first conversation Bob put me at ease. He was honest about what it needed, honest about the timeline, and kept me in the loop throughout. The finished truck is stunning — solid, straight, and better than I ever thought it could look. I wouldn't take my VWs anywhere else.

They restored my 1964 VW Bus, "Sage." I've owned a lot of VWs and dealt with a lot of shops over the years, and I can say without hesitation that Cooker's is the best I've ever worked with. The quality of the work is exceptional — every weld, every panel, every detail. But what really sets them apart is the honesty and communication. You always know exactly where things stand. Sage looks and drives better than new.

I bought my 1964 Beetle in 1969 and finally decided to restore it properly in 2015. I wanted someone I could trust with a car that meant so much to me. Cooker's was everything I hoped for — they treated my car with respect, communicated throughout the process, and brought it back to life beautifully. The paintwork is flawless and it drives like a dream. Worth every penny and every year of waiting.

Cooker's restored my 1979 VW Convertible and I couldn't be happier. The body work was perfect and the attention to detail throughout was exactly what I was looking for. Bob was always responsive, honest about what things would cost, and the car came back looking like something you'd see in a showroom. The whole experience was excellent — I felt like they genuinely cared about the outcome as much as I did.

I've had two cars done by Cooker's — a 1962 and a 1956. Both came out absolutely beautiful. Bob is one of the most honest people I've dealt with in the VW world. No surprises, no hidden costs, no excuses. Just quality work done right. When my '62 came back, people at shows couldn't believe it was the same car. I'll keep bringing my VWs to Cooker's as long as they're in business.

Cooker's built my 1952 VW Zwitter — one of the rarest body styles out there, and a car that needed expertise to restore properly. They nailed it. The Zwitter has the early split-windshield front end combined with the later oval dash, and every detail of the restoration respected that uniqueness. The fit and finish are perfect. I'm proud to drive it to every show, and Cooker's deserves all the credit.

I've trusted Cooker's with three of my cars — a 1963, a 1957 Bus, and a 1965 Beetle. Each one came back better than I could have imagined. Bob and the team are masters of their craft, but they're also just genuinely good people. They love these cars as much as we do. The quality of the work is consistent across every build, no matter how big or small the job. These guys are the real deal.

I drove multiple vehicles out of state to have them worked on at Cooker's — and I'd do it again without hesitation. The reputation is well-earned. The fabrication work on my builds was incredible, and Bob's communication throughout made the distance feel like nothing. You know these guys care when they're sending you updates before you even have to ask. Cooker's sets the bar for this kind of work on the east coast.

My 1967 VW Bus went to Cooker's for restoration and came back as a showpiece. The body work was perfect, the bus drives better than it ever has, and every detail was attended to with real care. What struck me most was the honesty — Bob told me exactly what it needed, didn't oversell or undersell the work, and delivered exactly what he promised. That kind of straightforwardness is rare in any business, let alone restoration work.

I've been bringing my cars to Cooker's for over 10 years. Multiple vehicles, multiple projects — and the quality has been consistent every single time. These aren't just good mechanics; they're craftsmen who truly understand what makes these old VWs special. I trust them completely with my collection, and that trust has been earned through years of excellent work and honest dealing. Cooker's is the only shop I recommend to anyone asking about air-cooled VW restoration.

Cooker's did the custom fabrication work on my Beetle — including a custom wing and roll bar that had to be built from scratch. The craftsmanship on the fabrication was incredible. They built exactly what I had in my head, and then some. The finished car is everything I wanted — functional, fast, and turning heads at every event. When it comes to custom fabrication on air-cooled VWs, Cooker's is in a class by themselves.

I brought my 1963 Double Cab pickup to Cooker's not knowing exactly what it needed, but knowing it needed a lot. Bob did a thorough assessment, gave me an honest picture, and then executed perfectly. The finished Double Cab is breathtaking — these trucks are rare enough that you don't see many, and even fewer that look this good. Cooker's treated it as the special vehicle it is.

Cooker's did work on my 1981 VW Vanagon — yes, a water-cooled VW. Even outside their air-cooled specialty, the quality and professionalism were exactly the same. The communication was excellent, the work was thorough, and the price was fair. These guys bring the same attitude to everything they work on. If you have a VW and want it done right, Cooker's is the answer.
